Mastectomy Swimsuits Meet Needs of Cancer Survivors

March 17, 2012.

Many of the products that we buy may not be ideally suited for us, because they do not meet our individual needs. Swimsuits are no exception to this; many swimsuits only come in one size, because the makers expect that it will stretch to fit whatever size needed.

But we know that people come in many different shapes and sizes, and that there are plenty of instances where people will require special accommodations. It requires a group of very considerate people to make products that cater to the needs of a few, which is why so many people feel left out and feel neglected. Many corporations are not willing to invest their resources in a new product unless it has wide appeal and a high rate of likely success. But, there are a few groups of people that are attracting more attention to the needs of those few that are left out.

The survivors of breast cancer are not able to use many swimsuits on the market today, because it is not made for their unique body type. These survivors would greatly benefit from mastectomy swimsuits, which enable them to participate in swimming again. It is unfair to automatically count people out of sports when their participation only requires a few more accommodations. We all should make an effort to include everyone we can in the participation of sports, because it is a great way to get the exercise that we all need. Exercise helps everyone to maintain their health, and it is an especially crucial need for cancer survivors. During the treatment of breast cancer, these victims have had to undergo many tests, treatments, and surgeries for which they have had to stay in a hospital. While in the hospital, it is very hard to get the exercise that we all need, and our immune system suffers deterioration because of the lack of physical activity. The effects of cancer leave the victim’s immune system exhausted, and it must be reactivated during the period of post-treatment.

Exercise and a healthy diet are the best ways to keep a healthy immune system, but many women often feel that they are not able to participate in sports because of the negative effects that were inflicted on their bodies during the surgery. A great way for these people to gain the exercise they need is by swimming, which is made more comfortable with mastectomy swimsuits. Swimming is one of the best ways to exercise because of the full-body involvement to move through the water. It is great for a cardiovascular workout, and it is effective in ridding the toxins from one’s body. When cancer survivors acquire mastectomy swimsuits, they too can experience the fulfilling nature of this sport without having to worry so much about their body image.

In addition to the exercise that swimming provides, it also helps to increase our level of confidence as we conquer the obstacles in the water’s environment, which is far different than anything that we normally deal with in life. The use of mastectomy swimsuits facilitates the process of overcoming more obstacles in life. These brave women have already beat the odds of surviving breast cancer, and in doing so, they have given hope to thousands and even millions more that will yet have this disease. As other women see the example of the survivors, they are empowered to tackle any obstacles that they encounter. Something that is as life-threatening as breast cancer is a huge hurdle to overcome. The lessons that women learn in this battle for survival will serve as empowerment for meeting the demands of other obstacles in life.
